Generally, if alcohol is had in moderation and balanced with a healthy lifestyle, it doesn’t pose much harm. But pregnancy is a whole different ball game. Alcohol does not just have a harmful effect on you, but it could be life threatening for your developing baby.
Since it is an intoxicant, alcohol has the ability to mix with your bloodstream, enter the placenta, and pass its toxins to the baby via the umbilical cord. This can lead to severe cognital, nervous, and body impairment, and damage the baby with a lifetime of birth defects. More importantly, it can lead to very early premature birth, miscarriage, and still birth. We advise that you refrain from having all types of alcohol during pregnancy. You can resume its intake post delivery.
