Pregnant women can indulge in tofu, but moderation is key. Tofu is considered to be one of the world’s healthiest food items as it is packed with a variety of vitamins and minerals. It is a good soure of protein with 1/4th ounce of tofu containing 9.16grams of protein. From our nails to our bones and creation of certain hormones, protein plays a vital role in building our body and providing us with energy. It is, therefore, essential for pregnant women and for the growth and development of the unborn baby. Tofu is also rich in copper and iron that are required for the synthesis of haemoglobin. To add to that, it is also a tasty ingredient for salads and stir-fries.
However, having too much of tofu can be harmful during pregnancy, especially if you have thyroid. Tofu contains isoflavones that mimic estrogen. These tend to interfere with thyroid and result in further complications in pregnancy.
So, its best to have tofu in moderation during pregnancy. Consult with your doctor before adding tofu to your pregnancy diet.
