Smelt is a popular winter fish. It is known to be rich in vitamin B12, selenium, phosphorus and proteins along with other vitamins and minerals. When vitamin B12 is combined with folic acid, it can help prevent the development of serious spinal cord related defects like spina bifida in your unborn baby. Selenium also helps in the production of thyroid hormone. And, phosphorus is essential for the bone development of your baby. Various preparations of smelt are made during festivals in different parts of the world and can be partaken by expecting moms.
Smelt is my all-time, winter favorite. Are there any benefits of having it during pregnancy?
