Absolutely! Guacamole, an avocado based dip is a perfectly healthy option to consume during pregnancy. It is power packed with carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals and provides a range of benefits to an expecting mother and her baby. Avocado, the main ingredient of Guacamole is an excellent source of folic acid which is critical for the proper growth and development of the foetus’ organs. A single fruit of avocado boasts 22mg of choline, an essential and adequate amount to aid in the development of the brain and the central nervous system of the baby. With an abundance of iron, it reverses anaemia in an expecting mother. Thanks to its high potassium levels, it reduces the risk of preeclampsia as well as the risk of future heart disease. It aids in nutrient absorption, combats morning sickness, relieves leg cramps and reduces risk of excess weight gain during pregnancy.

However limit your consumption to half an avocado everyday as it has plenty of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, both good fats that are important for the baby’s development. But too much of it can add to your weight.

So what are you waiting for? Pick up a baked tortilla chip and enjoy the goodness of Guacamole.
