Have you always been a little overweight and freaking out imagining how you’ll end up like a watermelon now that you pregnant? Take it from experts, now is not the time to be hard on yourself.
Normal weight gain is healthy and necessary in any pregnancy for the healthy growth of your baby. You need to gain about 2 to 4 pounds during your first trimester and 1 pound a week for the remainder of the pregnancy. It can be a little less if you are overweight.
Your focus should be on eating a healthy well balanced diet and avoid junk food. It is not advisable to go on a weight loss program right after you find out you are pregnant – a 2015 meta study published in PLOS One concluded that if overweight or obese women lose weight while pregnant, it increases the risk of complications and may harm the fetus.
Remember that pregnancy is a time for you to pamper your body and your baby with healthy nutrients. A lot of the weight you gain during pregnancy is the weight of the baby and placenta that you anyway loose right after delivery. You can loose any excess weight postpartum by maintaining a regular exercise regimen.
