Experts conflicted on controversial caffeine – pregnancy study

When it comes to food advice soon after you get pregnant, coffee and alcohol top the list of foods to avoid. Pregnant women are advised to cut down their coffee and caffeine consumption to avoid any harmful effects on the baby. It is very difficult to completely cut down coffee if you are used to having it everyday and your morning cuppa maybe something that gets you through your day.

Doctors have traditionally advised pregnant women to limit coffee consumption to two cups of moderate strength coffee per day. However, new research suggests that any amount of coffee may be harmful and strongly recommends cutting caffeine out of your diet when pregnant.

Although the study is not conclusive, it does provide a compelling case for more research to happen in this field and for dietary guidelines to be reviewed by government bodies on coffee consumption.
