Since Feta generally comes from unpasteurized milk and is a soft cheese, it sometimes contains the listeria bacteria. This bacteria can cause an infection known as listeriosis in pregnant women, a condition that poses serious complications like miscarriage, premature birth, and stillbirth. If you really have the urge for feta, eat feta that is made from pasteurized milk only, or when it is thoroughly cooked so that the bacterial pathogens are completely destroyed. However, we recommend you to stay away from feta during pregnancy, especially the first two trimesters, and resume its consumption post pregnancy.
